Gadjah Mada University (UGM), one of Indonesia's top universities, is a state university established during the early independence era. Since its founding on December 16, 1949, in Bulaksumur, Sleman, Special Region of Yogyakarta, this university has served as the National Center for Science and Culture. As Indonesia's oldest university, UGM has over 61,000 students and 374 professors, offering various study programs and research centers to support innovation and scientific development in Indonesia.

Aiming to be a world-class, innovative university dedicated to national and humanitarian interests, UGM's vision aligns with its mission to provide excellent education, research, and community service while preserving and developing valuable knowledge. To support these goals, UGM strives to enhance the quality of teaching and research, fostering sustainable development and societal welfare.

With this commitment, UGM is optimizing its tuition payment portal to facilitate student transactions. Collaborating with PT. Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BRI), through BRIAPI, UGM, provides the BRIVA Online service to simplify payment mechanisms and expedite student transactions.

The Potential of SNAP in Supporting Secure and Integrated Digital Payment Mechanisms

The National Standard for Open Payment APIs (SNAP), initiated by Bank Indonesia (BI), aims to create a healthy, competitive, and innovative digital payment ecosystem. Standardizing the technical specifications of SNAP supports the design of digital payment mechanisms that protect consumer data security, enhance prudential principles for service providers and users, and establish an efficient, secure, and reliable digital payment ecosystem.

Implementing SNAP in the higher education environment through BRIAPI services aligns with BRI's goals to contribute to financial inclusion in Indonesia. One way is by expanding the massive digital payment ecosystem in education. Therefore, BRIAPI is committed to collaborating with numerous merchants, institutions, agencies, and even universities across Indonesia, including UGM

BRIAPI's commitment also extends to supporting the implementation of SNAP, which must be completed by June 30, 2025, for micro, small, and medium enterprises and non-profit organizations, including foundations or universities. Implementing SNAP services in universities is expected to streamline and seamlessly integrate the mechanisms for educational fee payments, fund management, and other financial transactions.

The Potential of BRIVA Online to Facilitate Digital Payment Services at Gadjah Mada University

BRI Virtual Account (BRIVA) is a digital payment method using each customer's unique Virtual Account (VA) number. Customers could use this VA number to make payments for each transaction. Customers need to select BRIVA as the payment method in its usage mechanism. Subsequently, customers will automatically receive a payment code (customer ID) in the form of a VA number. Afterward, customers must transfer the payment to that VA number through the BRImo app. Once the transaction is validated and considered successful, the transaction process is completed.

In collaboration with BRIAPI, UGM utilized the BRIVA Online service to simplify the tuition payment process on the Student Payment Portal. This service offers the advantage over manual transfers, as students do not need to confirm tuition payments manually since the data will be verified automatically.

The implementation of BRIVA Online is expected to impact operational efficiency and payment convenience for students positively. The integration of UGM's campus system with BRIVA Online BRIAPI allows for automating payment processes, notifications, and confirmations, enhancing payment flexibility and ensuring data security through encryption.

In the long term, this implementation is expected to reduce maintenance costs, support legal compliance, and bolster the presence of SNAP implementation in Indonesia.
