DOKU is one of the pioneering payment technology companies in Indonesia, with payment gateways as its main service in an integrated payment ecosystem. Challenges

DOKU Chief Innovation Officer Rudianto Thong said there is one major problem they have been addressing since its founding in 2007: the payment system. That year, online payment systems were still uncommon in Indonesia. It became the main driver for DOKU to pioneer the payment gateway system provider.

Now, DOKU starts to see the real problem through helicopter-view and believes that overall, the payment system in Indonesia is struggling with conventional methods such as cash payments or manual transfers. While in fact, conventional payment systems have many shortcomings that can actually be anticipated through cashless payment systems.

DOKU strives to provide easier and more efficient payment systems through three pillars: Payment Gateway, Transfer Services, and Collaborative Commerce (C-Commerce). Those pillars build a holistic digital payment ecosystem for any business owners, from enterprise scale to personal sellers.

DOKU is integrated with BRIAPI transactional and informational API

In regards to those business pillars, DOKU integrated BRIAPI to complement their digital payment ecosystem with BRI banking services. Since 2020, they have been using BRIAPI with BRIVA as the first product they integrated. It has now become the largest BRI product used by DOKU merchants and customers, as it provides the best payment options especially for those who are BRI customers as well.

In addition to the BRIVA API, DOKU also leverages other transactional APIs such as Direct Debit API and Transfer to Other Banks API. These three APIs have opened up opportunities for DOKU in establishing partnerships with merchants in various regions, especially remote areas. To tap in with BRI, the most widespread bank with more than 70 million customers throughout the country, the business opportunity for DOKU is now wider than ever.

In addition to the BRIVA API, DOKU also leverages other transactional APIs such as Direct Debit API and Transfer to Other Banks API. These three APIs have opened up opportunities for DOKU in establishing partnerships with merchants in various regions, especially remote areas. To accommodate that, DOKU utilizes two informational APIs from BRIAPI: Account Statement API and Account Information API, to make reconciliation runs automatically. Both services have streamlined the manual processes, creating an easier and faster company's financial management process.

Integration Process

"BRIAPI features are comprehensive. All documents related to technical and integration are already available in the documentations," said Rudianto about his first impression on integrating BRIAPI to DOKU. It is one of the benefits BRIAPI offered, to provide everything the users needed within a single dashboard.

The all-in-one documentation allows DOKU to integrate with BRIAPI faster than any other banks' APIs. Through the Open API system, BRIAPI provides system-to-system integration with DOKU as a fintech company so they can get maximum benefits from BRIAPI services.

From its technical side, Rudianto underlined BRIAPI’s security standard which has been certified by PA-DSS (Payment Application Data Security Standard) and ISO: 27001. As an aggregator company that helps connect its merchants with BRI, the latest security standards ensure customers' personal and financial data are secured in every transaction.
